Lanterns at Nikkei
At Nikkei MTL, from October 4 to 31 of 2024, we’re paying tribute to this rich Japanese tradition with our very own Chôchin Matsuri, to welcome autumn with open arms.
Throughout the month, the restaurant hangs its lanterns to create an enchanting setting while offering a unique culinary experience.
Our chefs have created an autumn-inspired slate menu with dishes featuring seasonal ingredients such as apples, Japanese pears and sake, while our mixologist pays tribute to the Japanese cocktail scene with original creations.
Don’t miss our launch party on October 4, when you’ll be the first to taste our new creations and enjoy the festive atmosphere provided by DJ Claudel.
Why a lantern festival?
The Lantern Festival, known as Chôchin Matsuri, is a traditional Japanese celebration marked by colorful lanterns lighting up streets, temples and shrines.
Historically, paper lanterns (chôchin) were used not only to guide people in the dark, but also to ward off evil spirits and invoke good luck.
Every autumn, many Japanese cities are transformed into light shows, where lanterns take on a variety of shapes and the streets fill with dancers, musicians and festival-goers.
These events symbolize hope, the change of season and the spiritual connection between people and their ancestors.
